Last weekend, Oklahoma endured three consecutive ice storms over a three day period. After millions of trees were destroyed and thousands upon thousands of people found themselves without electricity, President Bush declared Oklahoma a national disaster area.
The running joke is that those of us who live here have known that for YEARS.
Our family never lost power but we did have to do some serious “roughing-it.” At one point, the ice got so thick on our rear deck that I wasn’t able to lift the cover off the hot tub. I still get the shakes just thinking about it.
It’s been almost a week and we are still covered in ice. I took the following pictures yesterday. It’s actually kind of beautiful in a creepy “Jack Nicholson in the Shining” sort of way.
I’m getting kind of stir crazy and the weather man says more snow is coming in tonight.
I think I’ll go sharpen my ax.

All work and no play makes mark a crazy mo’fo!
Which means I hope you get that hot tub open soon…
Actually, those are some pretty cool pictures. I can imagine the horror at our house if we couldn’t get into the hot tub on a cold wintery night! My husband would probably freak out like Jack if he couldn’t have his “Naked Hot Tub Friday Night’. (Now you know why the neighbors avoid us like the plague on Friday nights! LOL!)
Oh my gosh, you poor man! Thick ice on ”your deck”! There are ways to melt that…and to keep it from happening again. Oh wait a minute, you really meant your deck this time didn’t you! I’m sorry! I don’t know where my mind is today!
This is a very funny post. I love the jab at your own state of OK! Funny! And I’m sorry you are having to “rough-it”. I hope you get the cover off of the hot tub soon…especially before you lose it completely and you hurt someone. If you do get ”Jack Nicholson in the Shining” out of control….please make sure you take it out on someone from your work and not your sweet family. Okay?
Stay safe and warm this weekend.
redrum.
Dang. All of the best “Shining” lines have been taken.
Oh well, maybe it’s best to leave the hot tub closed. It’s probably full of blood anyway.
Not much more pleasant in Tucson AZ. Our pipes froze and we didn’t couldn’t flush toilets or use water until the sun thawed them later in the day. We live in the desert, land of triple digits. This subzero stuff is a shocking rarity.
The icy trees are so amazing to look at when the sun shines through despite their deadliness.
RYC: I hoope you meant that in a good way.
You know, it is possible for someone who lives in frozen hell to pick up and move elsewhere…
ryc: MARK! TMI. lol
Those are some beautiful pictures… Put the axe down. lol Have a great night. Ang
beautiful….
ryc: Of course. I have a rather large number of them saved just for you. They are begging to be baked!
I know… the ice on top of the hot tub cover is just making me want to stay in here myself, too! Your snow swings upward and should be here by Monday… Thanks a bunch!
OMG, I’m so sorry for your hot tub loss the last few days. How ” cool” would it have been to sit it the hot tub while gazing at the ice trees. My heart goes out to you.
Global Warming… that is all I can think about!
Fascinating pictures…well except for the last scary one!!!! LOL
Can’t get the hot tub opened ? Lemme know when the telethon is and I’ll donate.
That ice is just Cuhraaaaazzzzy!
I agree. It is very beautiful in a very creepy way. I got some pics the other day with the sun shining through the ice and it almost looks cheerful. Almost. But then you listen to the forecast for the snow and you wonder ‘Why does God hate us?”

Nice ice.
Heeeeeeere’s Marky!
Whoaaa. Neato.
I was born in Oklahoma and as I grow up I find myself becoming increasingly glad that I was relocated– with the exception of having to share a home state with President Bush. On the border between us and Louisiana there is a sign that says “proud home of George W. Bush”. It’s not so great.
The “glass trees” are glorious!
Cool pic of tree, but OH MAN….stay warm!
the trees look gorgeous!
You are gifted with the camera!!! And I am jealous, we have only had a dusting of snow here. I am ready, with plenty of candles
and blankets and my membership at the gym for showers if necessary.
I love when the trees are covered with ice! Unfortunately, that means the roads probably are too, and that sucks.
