  • SAVING DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME

Many of you have been using your blogs as a forum to express your very passionate feelings about Daylight Savings Time.  The consensus seems to be that you would like to passionately decapitate the person who came up with the idea. I think shortandsnarky summed it up best on her post.

I have to admit that I don’t understand this. I happen to LOVE Daylight Savings Time.  Many of you have expressed the belief that Bush’s plan to extend Daylight Savings Time is the final straw that should signal impeachment proceedings. I, on the other hand, thought it was the first time Bush had a decent idea (although I’m sure that extending Daylight Savings Time secretly benefits Halliburton in some fashion, and Cheney is the brains behind the idea).

I love cold weather but I despise winter because I hate the fact that it starts getting dark at 5:00 in the afternoon. It’s such a relief when spring arrives and the days start to grow longer. DST extends that daylight by an hour in the evenings, which means that in the summer I can mow my lawn at 9:00 p.m. if I want too. I’ve never wanted too, but it’s nice to know I can.

Of course that extra hour of sunlight in the evenings has to come from somewhere so the sun comes up an hour later now. If I was a morning person this would probably bother me, but I’m one of those people who can’t stand to stay in bed once I smell lunch cooking. I haven’t been up before dawn since Carter was president.

I realize that losing an hour of sleep and having to wait for your body clock to adjust is a bummer. This is why I propose that we make Daylight Savings Time permanent.  I realize that this would mean that many of you would have to get up and go to work in the dark.  My personal needs and wants are more important than yours, however, so I simply don’t care.

So get on the bandwagon with me; write your elected official, and let’s get this grass roots movement to make DST permanent going!

    Just don’t decapitate me.

  • I prefer this time, also. I hate when it gets dark so early – dark when I go to work and dark when I come home. I love the summer months here when it gets dark at almost 9 p.m.

  • I have a great deal of trouble getting up in the dark (and I need to be awake by 6:30 in the morning) so I struggle a lot with the time change. As the days lengthen into summer, things will get better.

  • i say let’s go on permanent daylight savings time.  forget about the spotted owl or the whales — let’s save daylight!!!!

  • I like it when it stays light out later, but daylight savings time was always such a bitch when I had little kids. Their bodies are on a schedule and it was hard to get them adjusted to going to bed when it was light out.. Now it’s my dog who won’t conform to daylight savings time and is waking me up at 5am to eat, dagnab it!

  • I DO like it being lighter later. I think that somewhere along the way I have develped S.A.D. (seasonal whatever disorder that depresses you). So, I really hate it when it’s dark so early in the day. I can deal with the time change…it’s just a stinker to remember to change EVERY clock in the house!

  • I HATE HATE HATE when they switch the time around on us. I like having more daylight in my day but I despise when they switch it back in the fall. Phooey!!!

  • I like it both ways; I like when we give up the hour for extra daylight (fair trade) and I like when we get our extra hour back.  geeesh folks there are bigger things to get so passionate about

  • I like it best right now…even better in the summer hours when it doesn’t get dark until I’m finally ready to come in and get ready for the next day.

I am not a morning person, so I don’t really care if the sun is up or down when I get up…I wont notice it until noon anyway.

  • In all fairness, I should warn you I’m sharpening my machete right now!

  • Here Here!!  Glad to know I’m not the only one who loves DST.  My body NEEDS that extra daylight… and I vote we keep it permanent!

  • dst rocks…….

  • Dear Elected Official,

    Please outlaw clocks.

    Thank You,

    Signed,

    Everybody.

  • I don’t care much about Daylight Savings. Like screaminginmyhead said, there are better things to be passionate about.

On a completely unrelated matter, what do you think about DeLay’s resignation? I live in the district he used to represent (he currently represents the one next to us), so this topic really interests me. I’d like to hear what you have to think– although I’m pretty sure that I can guess how you feel about him.

  • I’m with you.  My son actually slept IN on Sunday….rather than his normal waking time at 7 am, he didn’t get up until 8 am!  Though it really didn’t matter since I still stayed up too late…
I don’t care if it’s light in the morning…I’m not a morning person.  I’d rather have it still light at 9 or 10 pm.  I think DST should just be gone anyway.  Stay on the same time all year long.

But then, when would we remember to change the batteries in our smoke detectors?

  • I see the time changed has messed you up so bad you’re too tired to update.
